“The wind energy research capital of Canada”. Located at North Cape it is in one
of the windiest areas in Canada. Established in 1980 The Atlantic Wind Test Site
(AWTS) has been dedicated to the development of wind energy research.
November 16, 2001 marked the official opening of Atlantic Canada's
first wind farm. The Wind Farm and Wind Test Site together
produce 5% of PEI's electricity.
North Cape is also home to a demonstration wind-hydrogen
village to explore the prospects of hydrogen and wind energy
