Bicentennial project is designed to celebrate the arrival
of the original eight Acadian families, then to celebrate
and chronicle the 200 year history and progressive
development of the community of Tignish through to the

Tignish Church
St.
Simon and St. Jude Roman Catholic Church is P.E.I.'s
largest Neo-Gothic church. Built in 1860 of locally made
red brick, the church consists of a 165 foot steeple and
the interior is of decorative woodwork. One of the oldest
and first Tracker pipe organs in North America was
constructed in 1882 by Louis Mitchell and is located in
the gallery of the church.
Tignish Pipe Organ
A tracker-action pipe
organ built in 1882 by Louis Mitchell is located in the
gallery of the church. The organ is one of the oldest and
first tracker pipe organs in North America and also one
of very few left in existence by Louis Mitchell. It
consists of 1,118 pipes ranging in sizes of smallest at 3
inches to the largest being 16 feet. Summer organ
recitals are held during July and August by visiting
artists.
Elephant Rock
A short distance from
North Cape visitors will find a very popular and unusual
formation called Elephant Rock, carved from the cliff by
years of sea and weather conditions.
