The Tignish Bicentennial Celebration Committee is still hard at work preparing for next years upcoming events and activities. The Bicentennial Committee have entered their float in different parades this year and have received many great reviews. The float's theme is "together for the centuries" and it bridges the gap between the past and today.
In one part of the float a family dressed in period costumes is going about their daily routine as they would have lived in the early 1800's. Sometimes they sing and dance and other times they sit for dinner or do chores around the house. All the activity takes place in the kitchen of this log cabin. On the back of the float is a young person dressed in modern clothes and is looking in a window back on the olden times. They have on the latest fashions and have a skateboard in one hand. The young person wonders how the family could survive without TV or computers. Separating them is the wall of the log cabin.
The float recognizes the Bicentennial's major sponsors with their logos on the side of the float. A huge banner is carried by two people in front of the float recognizing sponsors and telling everyone to come to Tignish in 1999 to enjoy the celebrations.
The Bicentennial office would like to thank everyone who helped in the construction of the float, all the people who appear on the float and all the volunteers who help to get the float ready each week.
