Plans
Update on New Construction
The demolition
got started on April 7, 2006 when the Sports Association and
volunteers removed the green steel siding, the glass around the
boards, the ice surface lights and other items. By April 12, all
this stuff, as well as, the Zamboni and canteen equipment were moved
out of the Arena and either sold or stored at pre-arranged
locations.
Bulldog Demolition were awarded a demolition contract of $65,500
plus GST to knock down the Arena and haul all the materials away.
They started on April 13 and were finished by April 26th.
Tenders closed for the Phase 1 - Construction on April 19. This work
would involve site preparation, footings and foundations, and the
full outer shell of the new arena complete with insulation and
exterior doors. This contract was awarded to Perry's Construction
for $866,000 plus GST. As of April 20, 2006, the steel beams were
ordered with a delivery date of early July. Perry's Construction is
waiting on shop drawings for the steel before they can start site
preparation and positioning the footings for the columns of the
steel roof beams.
The next phase, including the dressing rooms, canteen, other rooms,
electrical, mechanical (with plant room) and ice pad will be out to
tender by the week of May 22, 2006 and will close by June 5, 2006
Perry's
Construction has indicated they will be starting site work on June
5th 2006.
June 5, 2006 - Perry's Construction has started
construction on footings and foundation for the outside wall of the
Arena.
July 6, 2006 -
The Footings and Foundation will be complete by Friday, July 7th.
Perry's Construction is presently excavating the clay from around
the sand base for the ice surface. After adding more sand to
increase the length and width of the sand base (since the ice
surface is increasing to 200' long and 85' wide), Perry's will
replace the excavated areas that are left with the proper quality
fill.
The structural steel is due to be delivered from Ontario between
July 10 - 14th. The sub-contractor, Star Construction, will probably
start erecting the steel by July 17th -(See
page of Construction Pictures.)
The contract for
Phase II - Constructon was awarded to Perry's Construction for
$1,934,800 plus GST. Phase II includes all interior work.
