:. Digital Innovations
Digital Innovations began as a CAP site manager within the Federal CAP and with the invaluable assistance of TechPEI. Through strategic partners ships with organizations such as RCLI (Rural Community Learning Inc) we have been able to leverage staffing issues and equipment demands to serve our community of Tignish. We are also proud members of the Provincial CAP Network.
|
| Digital Innovations took the lead role in preparing business plans, applications and finally implementation of the Federal BRAND Initiative. BRAND is a pilot project funded by the federal government to provide high speed Internet access to First Nations, rural and northern communities. We recognized the importance of broadband access to our rural communities and took progressive steps to make it a reality. |
| The broadband infrastructure provides high speed Internet connectivity to residents at a cost that is comparable to areas with a large population base. The infrastructure has seen improved application development in e-learning, e-business, e-health, and e-content. A list of benefits is listed below: |
- Improved communication and sharing of information
- Increased investment in the region
- Distributive work opportunities - bringing online work home to rural communities
- Greater access to online learning
- Labour market development
- Better services in health and education - attracting new residents
- Increased local opportunities helping to retain our youth
- Maximizing growth sectors: tourism, arts & culture, oil & gas, research
- Government online
- Collaborative and partnering among business, government and community

Digital Innovations and their parent organization Tignish Initiatives, was one of thirty-three Canadian organizations approved for national funding in round one of the BRAND initiative. What evolved from that was a joint implementation project between ourselves and our Evangeline neighbors that eventually joined with the Borden-Carleton project and the Kennet Inc. project. All were successful and we assisted with creating total wireless internet coverage for the province. |
We were extremely fortunate that our terrain and the willingness and community vision of the largest trading center in our region, the City of Summerside allowed us to begin a journey that is unique to BRAND, Canada and possibly North America. |
Digital Innovations is a not-for-profit community development group, and we have considerable expertise in developing, managing and implementing projects both large and small. We welcome strategic partnerships with companies, individuals and other community groups in West Prince and the rest of Prince Edward Island. If you have an idea, and need to find some way to make it a reality, give us a call, -we can help. We work to provide our community with a better standard of living through the use and implementation of technology and projects that enhance our Province. |
